I ( of course) LOVE my big camera. But now that Emma is getting older, we are using her stroller less, and less which means if I want to bring it with us, I have to carry it in my purse. So it has turned into a problem for me every time we have a special outing planned. My purse is already pretty full with her diapers, wipes, snacks, medicine, and a water bottle (not to mention my stuff!). Add my big camera to the mix and it makes the purse too heavy to carry all day. So I always struggle with whether or not I am going to bring it.
Today we planned a trip with Amanda and Aidan to The Children's Museum of Phoenix. Neither of us had been there since we took the kids back in October of last year. We were anxious to see how it would be different for them, and I knew I was going to want pictures. So I decided to take bring my little point and shoot. I got it last year during the pre-Christmas sales for this specific reason. Instead of researching, I picked the one that was cheapest. I haven't been very happy with it, but wondered if it was because I have just become spoiled with the quickness of my big one. So I tried it again today. After seeing the photos from today, I think it is time to invest in a decent point and shoot. I will have to add it to our never ending list of wants. So please excuse the pictures, but know that we had a great time at the museum!
Here they are last year....and here they are now!!
Emma loved the grocery store this time. Last time, she didn't have much interest in it, but I think this year she would have stayed there all day if she could have!
Do you see Amanda's cute little belly behind Aidan?! We are so excited that they are having another little one in December. Emma said that it was a baby girl. They find out next week, so we will see if she is right!
Our sequence of trying to get a picture of the two of them!
Going through the car wash!
Thanks guys for a great day! Always love when we can get together!!!

Cupcakes
Yesterday, Emma and I made cupcakes. I thought it would work out to get the cupcakes baked while she was napping, and then they would be ready to frost when she woke up.
She kept asking me if she could lick her spatula. I told her she could, thinking she would only do a little lick. Nope. The whole spatula went in he mouth!
From that point on it was much more fun to eat the icing then to decorate the cupcake. So instead, she got to eat her cupcake while I finished icing the rest.

A Home Made Project
Emma's room is still basically the same as it was the day we brought her home. I love her room, just thought it was time to start making her room look like a little girl's room instead of a baby room. I am not in any rush to move her out of her crib, so really no big changes can be made until we get a bed for her and get her fully potty trained so I can take out the changing table!
One of the things that I wanted for her room was a place to put pictures up of all her friends. I didn't want really want one of those fabric memo boards, but something similar. One of the blogs that I follow had a memo board that was made out of chicken wire and I thought it was cute. Depending on the size, you could use it to hold mail, recipes, photos, hair bows, or even jewelry.
I have been looking on Etsy for them, but couldn't really find one that I liked well enough. So I decide to try and make one. I don't think I will be going into business making them any time soon, but I think it turned out well enough to serve it's purpose!
I just bought a frame from Ikea, some chicken coop wire from Home Depot, and then with a staple gun, added the chicken wire to the frame.
I spray painted some clothes pins to hold the photos and that's it!
And just in case any is wondering.....
Emma's plant is growing! I am sure I need to pick some out to give more room, but I am scared I will kill the entire plant! I think I will just leave them and see what happens!

Back to Basics
A couple of weeks ago, Jessica had mentioned that she had bought Sophia some pinto beans to play with. With it being so hot outside, she was trying to think of different things for Sophia to do inside. Before I was a Child Life Specialist, I was a preschool teacher and a Child Life Assistant. In both of those jobs I always had the developmental table full of beans or rice, had the kids make noodle necklaces, and made home made playdough. All things that are extremely easy to do, the kids loved them, and they were CHEAP! I don't know why I didn't think about doing them with Emma.
We now have two boxes full of beans and noodles for Emma to play with. She is having a ball with both. After an episode of her throwing the beans around the entire house while I was putting away groceries, we had a talk about the rules of the beans, and we haven't had any more "decorating" ideas!
It is really easy to color the noodles. Just dump some in a ziplock bag, add a splash of rubbing alcohol, and some drops of food coloring. (the more drops, the darker/brighter the color) Shake the bag to coat, and lay them out on newspaper/paper towels/old towel and let them dry. That's it!
Stringing the noodles doesn't seem to keep her attention as well as I thought. But she does love to put them into her pots and pans like she does the beans!
Thanks Jessica for reminding me that they don't always need a new toy or elaborate activities to keep them entertained!

Not What We Were Expecting...
This morning, Emma had a summer class through the City of Chandler. It was called "Goofy Gardening" and I was really excited to go to it. The description talked about doing experiments, painting with vegetables, planting an edible plant, making, and eating a garden treat, and other activities. I had expected the garden treat to be dirt cups. (Crushed Oreo Cookies, chocolate pudding, and a gummy worm). I knew there was a good possibility of Emma not being able to do this part because of her Peanut Allergy. I wasn't too concerned about it with all of the other activities that would be going on. I just figured we wouldn't go to that center, and I would make sure I had a snack for her.
So this morning I had told her it was her turn to go to school and take a special garden class. (She knows that Sophia goes to school and always talks about it.) Now that she is very much a 2 year old, we talked about the rules of the classroom and that she needed to stay with mommy. (we are testing some independence these days!) Emma seemed to be really excited also, so off we went.
We walked into the classroom and Emma sat in her little chair. I didn't see anything set up except for the dirt cups, so I was a little worried. I told the teacher about Emma's allergy, and asked if it would be ok to look at the ingredients on the table. Of course it was fine, and my heart sank that everything had a peanut warning, or contained traces of peanuts except for the pudding. It seems that off brand products are the ones that have the warning most of the time, and that is what all these items were. At this point, I was ok. I put some gold fish crackers in her bag and Emma smashed those while the other kids smashed their cookies. Then it all went down hill. Even though I had told them she couldn't have the stuff, they kept offering the other stuff to her, and I had to keep saying that she couldn't have it. So there I sat in a class of about 6 other kids, all their moms starring at me as I said no she can't have that, then Emma saying "Emma wants a worm", and I started thinking about what she is and what she is going to miss out on, and I started crying. Silly and selfish I know. I just wasn't expecting the eating part to be such a big focus. And Emma wasn't really missing out. I found some bunny fruit snacks in my bag and she put those in her pudding, and she was happy to eat her pudding. But then the teacher said that was all she had planned and since there was still so much time left over, they could do the activity that she had planned for her other class. So Emma got to sprinkle some seeds onto a wet sponge, and the class was over! No painting, no planting, no other activities.
Now, I know Emma didn't feel like she was missing out, but I was mad, and we went straight to Home Depot. I found a Mickey Mouse planting kit, and we came home to plant our own flowers. I did call to complain about the class. Nothing about her allergy, just that the class was nothing what the description said it was going to be. They were very polite, and basically said that they had to find a replacement teacher last minute and it was their fault that they didn't communicate to her what the class was suppose to be. Oh well. Maybe next time I will stick to the activity classes like sports and dance.
Planting some flowers
Ready to find some sun for them to sit in. Fingers crossed that we get something to pop up!
I have already said that next spring, I was to plant our own little vegetable/fruit garden. Should be interesting!!
