It was a very busy and exciting weekend at the Green House. Saturday day was spent with Robert doing yard work and me doing some scrapbooking. I wanted to make a scrapbook of the past year of our engagement and was able to get that done, and start on a new project. Of course now that I have started a new project, I realize I need to head back to the scrapbook store to get some more paper. I have tons of paper, just not what I need for this particular album. And besides, do you really need a reason to buy more paper?
Saturday night we went to Outback and had dinner with Robert's dad and step-mom. They took us to dinner for a late birthday celebration. We had a great dinner and some how the conversation kept coming back to Robert and I having kids. Robert's dad was convinced that we had some big announcement to make. There were no announcements made last night....there were also NO announcements to make!
Sunday Robert and I got to go to the Diamondback's game for a group I work with. There is a program called Caps for Kids that my oncology patients get to participate in. It is a group that works on getting hats signed for our patients. Our patients can ask for anyone they want to sign there hat. I have had everyone from Sponge Bob, to the President, to Disney Stars, to sports people. The cool thing is, is that even the cartoon characters are real signatures. They get either the people that draw the character or provide the voice to sign the hat.
But back to the game. Caps for Kids was highlighted at the game today. Me and 5 of my patients got to meet a couple of the players. I honestly had no clue who they were, but do remember that they were pitchers. We got to meet in the press room. It was pretty neat in there and a lot smaller then I expected.
After the kids met with the players and got their autographs, we got to go out onto the field and be introduced during the pre-game ceremonies. The kids go to see themselves on the jumbo tron, plus find their families up in the stands. The really cool, unexpected surprise was that Misty May-Treanor, the Olympic Gold Medalist for Women's Beach Volleyball was there to throw out the first pitch! (Her husband plays for the Mariners and that is who the Diamondbacks were playing). She was in arm lengths from us with her gold medal and everything. I think I wasn't comprehending who it really was and what she was wearing, plus making sure I didn't loose any of the kids as we were trying to get of the field, that I didn't take any pictures. Luckily other people were thinking for me and got some. As soon as I get them I will post them.
Surprise number 2 was where we got to sit for the game. I knew that we were going to sit in a suite. It was suppose to be the party suite. But on the walk up, Erin from the Diamondbacks, told us that they upgraded our suite for us. This is where we were sitting..
Yes, it was the Owner's Suite. It was very nice with it's own personal refrigerator, bathroom, couches, and two flat screen t.v.'s. One on the game, the other on the Olympics.
Surprise #3 came when we realized that 2 suites over from us was Misty May-Treanor! Several of my patients and their brothers and sisters got to go over and get their picture taken with her and her gold medal. Unfortunately the Diamondbacks lost, but everyone had a great time!
On the way home, I was thinking our night was over and I was ready to get home and sit on the couch and not move! Instead we went into the new Sports Chalet that opened by us. Robert had heard they offer lessons in becoming scuba certified and next thing I new he is checking out prices and schedules. The pool they use for the lessons is right there at the store. We found out that they offer a come and try day for free, and we thought that might be better to do first before we spend hundreds on the actual class. (We had heard that you can have a claustrophobic problem, and Robert is kind of concerned about his ears). Some how I also got signed up in the come and try day. Robert is all about it...me not so much. If I don't freak out on the try it day, then I am thinking this is going to be something I wind up doing for him. Oh well, at least he didn't want to get into volcano exploring or something crazy like that!
I think that does it for our crazy weekend! As soon as I get more pictures I will post them. We are both excited because we are only working 4 days this week and then a 4 day weekend! Hope everyone had a great weekend!
